Happy Healthy Aging

The Joy of Life

There is a ever-present joy available when we decide to find ways to express this wonderful life-giving energy. What is this feeling called joy? Joy is a word we don’t usually use except perhaps at the birth of a baby or during the holidays.

We might think of it as a state of being that would be nice to experience, but probably not attainable in reality. Most of the time most are struggling to feel something like happiness. Most people have been through a lifetime of a mix of ups and downs and have had a fair share of difficulty, struggle, and loss and maintaining feeling good can feel depleting.

Happiness is something that is up to all of us. It takes practice. The more we practice the more the energy will increase and the greater the opportunity to have more moments of joy.

Think of happiness and joy as energy that needs to activated.  Don’t just wait for it to happen, realize that you have these feelings already inside you and use any opportunity to activate them. Take the time every day to get out of your head full of bad and sad memories and focusing on what is going wrong in your life right now and refocus your attention on everything that you consider good. Train your mind out of feeling unhappy and joyless and put your attention on anything that will change that feeling. What you focus on expands and becomes more. This is a scientific fact. Think of focusing heat onto something long enough and it will burst into flames. Write out everything you are truly thankful for and all the comforts you have right now. Celebrate the small things.

Don’t deny yourself the opportunity you have every day to start out thankful and watch how much lighter and brighter you will feel. You can feel joy and happiness. It’s up to you to choose it, activate and allow it.
